    1. Okay, so I will admit up front that I have a somewhat intimate relationship with Joseph Conrad s original novella, among other things having written three academic undergraduate paper on the text all of which obviously affects my reading of any adaptation into any medium However, that having been said, I will nevertheless try to objective and precise. This adaptation is written by David Zane Mairowitz, who borrows liberally quite logically from Conrad s text, and illustrated in black and white, o [...]

    2. The story takes place during the Belgian occupation of Congo The dark theme of the story sheds light on the horrors of colonialism in the country I didn t like the derogatory names the Congolese were called, but that was probably the nomenclature used at the time What makes the book for me, is the artwork by Catherine Anyango It captures the dark theme of the story well The illustrations are murky, but has enough detail that kept me analysing the panels The photo realistic depictions of the char [...]

    3. cool also conrad was a top notch racist and the heart of darkness is the projected reflection of the west s malignancy

    4. I am so not a fan of Heart of Darkness but this graphic novel was a good adaptation of it The art was absolutely perfect for the story and it was extremely well done.

    5. Let s say this graphic novel is a short er version which quotes both Heart of Darkness and The Congo Diaries Combined with extremely realistic artwork the drawings look like old photographs, The horror The horror just got a face NOTE For an optimal experience , you should read the original first.

    6. Loved this adaptation sparse and so evocative due to the drawings The illustrations really told the story here and brilliantly tapped into aspects of not only the novel but the Vietnam reading of it too

    7. Graphic novel of the novelI felt this was really too brief and a lot of the narrative was lostt a little erraticme panels superb, others muddled Interesting and pretty in parts, but unsatisfying.

    8. Works best if you are already familiar with the novel, as yes it is a brief rendering of the story I thought the artwork was eerie and excellent Not the whole story, but like Apocalypse Now before it an interesting and worthy interpretation of Conrad s classic tale.

    9. Graphic literally version of Heart of Darkness, crossed with Conrad s Congo travel journal The illustrations are great, the fairly sparse text much less so I m unsure whether this would hook people into reading the novel could just as easily deter, which would be a shame.

    10. This graphic novel version has been an extraordinary disappointment for me I had read good critics but I found it just.dark and confusing.

    11. Visually striking, without taking away anything from the imaginative evokativeness of the novel A great accompanyment 8
