    1. How to be Vegan Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Cruelty Free Eating, Living, Dating, Travel, Decorating, and More by Elizabeth Castoria is an introduction and guide to the vegan lifestyle Castoria is the former editorial director of VegNews One of my biggest peeves with vegans stems from definitions In this book I see the same thing Vegans do not eat or use any animal products which is clear and concise However vegetarians eat eggs and dairy according to Castoria As a vegetarian, that is news t [...]

    2. A great, surprisingly up to date, resource for anyone who s thinking of becoming vegan or curious about the lifestyle I m married to a vegan so I probably have experience than most with it and overall, I thought the advice especially the section about manners and how to handle certain questions in the book was fine I like that it lists lots of other resources for diving deeper into subjects like cookbooks, nutrition, finding restaurants, etc I also like that the book is nicely designed with hel [...]

    3. Great for someone who is trying to learn the basics on veganism but for someone who already knows about the lifestyle this book will become repetitive.

    4. This is a readable, solid book about creating a vegan lifestyle I enjoyed reading ite author is humorous and the book is well organized I did know a lot of what she discussed for example, I ve been buying vegan cosmetics and cleaning products for years so I felt that some of the information was a bit basic But there are good sections on hidden animal ingredients, vegan ethnic foods, etc I didn t make any of the recipes but there were some I would definitely try, and it didn t look like they requ [...]

    5. I reserved this from the library sight unseen I was surprised by the small format It s roughly the size of a trade paperback This contains helpful and general information for the vegan curious or vegetarians leaning that way Early on in the book, I was rather shocked that the author would liken a slaughtered animal to said animal being in a costume, such as when one dresses up their dog in an annoying hot dog costume This comparison is absurd and insensitive and totally unexpected from a vegan I [...]

    6. I have been flirting with veganism for so long 5 years vegetarian , that I picked up this book hoping it might give me the courage to take veganism on a date The book is very well organized and thorough, to the point that some topics and tips may seem too basic and obvious for some people, but I think in this kind of book it is best to have all the bases covered I wish there were pictures, specially in the recepies section, but other than that I have no complaints, and would recommend to anyone [...]

    7. Helpful guideThe book is a very helpful guide for anyone interested on being vegan, ranging from how to react to people s comments to recipes to dating.

    8. It s a great book for people who really want to begin a vegan lifestyle and have absolutely no idea where to go This book is an introduction to everything.

    9. The cosmetics section is a little inaccurate but overall a good primer Cheeky dumb style but had helpful tidbits The recipes look good

    10. I absolutely loved this fun and quirky little introduction to veganism, and I was impressed by the fairly wide range of topics that were covered in this fairly small volume Starting with basic definitions of veganism and the breakdown of essential vitamins and food groups, the book then moves to suggestions for living a vegan lifestyle with respect to clothing and beauty supplies, household cleaners, and ideas for making vegan choices related to travel and airport food. The book is loaded with he [...]

    11. This was a quick and fun read, I gave it three stars.I am a vegetarian who tires to limit their dairy as much as possible so although I m not planning on becoming a full on vegan yet I was interested in learning about veganism and how I can make ethical choices One thing I loved about this book was the non judgmental attitude It was nice to learn about veganism without being made to feel bad if you don t choose to be 100% vegan right now The only thing I didn t like about the book were the jok [...]

    12. Pretty cool This book gets to the point Everything you felt like asking about being a vegan is here Even stuff you wouldn t think to ask So I hate to cook, but I made the banana muffins anyway I thought they would make a good treat to eat instead of all those cakes and cookies people are eating for Christmas I totally messed up the recipe, and they were still good I would suggest photo copying the recipes or typing them up because the book is too small to hold and cook with at the same time I we [...]

    13. This read a bit like a magazine, which I didn t love It did offer some good resources for how to find out what restaurants are vegan, as well as strategies for dealing with social situations dinner parties, etc and awkward conversations Though the many infographics were in some ways helpful, they were a bit overly obvious I did learn quite a lot about what animal products are used in non food products, such as cosmetics and body care Some of the recipes were interesting, but I would have liked a [...]

    14. This book is awesome This is a great book for someone who wants to know about veganism, but particularly how to be vegan when travelling, on holidays and vacations with your family, etc Castoria uncomplicates veganism and makes it look really easy She also stresses out that there are no perfect vegans and you don t need to throw up all your lunch because your chapstick has beeswax and you didn t knew that Then she shows you how to get rid of your non vegan stuff chapstick included or even how t [...]

    15. I read this book out of curiosity than anything It was informative and easy to read I don t envision myself going completely vegan anytime soon but I ve been trying to be mindful of what I put on my plate That is why I chose to read this book I gave it 2 stars because, while it satisfied my curiosity, it didn t do anything than that.

    16. 3.75 starsere is such a thing I just asked my cat.I can often judge how good a cookbook or some other nonfiction book is by how many post it page tab sticker thingies I have used And this book I used a good number Some were for pages that contain general information, while others were for recipes such as 1 Chocolate chip cookies2 Old fashioned apple crisp3 BrowniesWhilst none of the aforementioned recipes are earth shattering you have to remember these are vegan recipes And these particular reci [...]

    17. Recipes look quite good, though pretty American Introduction is eager, informal, selective sloppy with facts or at least doesn t provide enough context to make claims believable extraordinary claims, extraordinary evidence , does provide some good links to information though.Disclaimer I just read Should you eat meat which is the polar opposite style of this book, so I wasn t feeling particularly tolerant.I have one friend with a personality who I think this book s style might appeal to, for th [...]

    18. I liked the fact it is easy and fun to read, as well as the layout and design she covers ettiquette and reminds you not to be pushy or judgmental, which has been one of my biggest reasons to not go vegan however, I gave it only three stars because I really wish it was longer and had info on how to deal with skepticism and judgment, and the hard transition to veganism and emotions that go with it.

    19. Cute and fun introduction to a vegan lifestyle and not off putting for someone like me who just wants to dabble It has some great information on the most important areas of life and the resources mentioned for further infos are great I also enjoy the style of the book, love the cover and how the chapters are color coded and above all love the size Fits in every purse and it is comfortable to hold.

    20. Funny, smart, and thoughtful this is the perfect book for people who are even slightly veg curious I loved how it was an easy read but really made me think about animals and food in new ways and made veganism accessible and maybe even fun And cool It s also just a really pretty book and I plan on giving it away as a gifts for the forseeable future I don t know I m just feeling really enthusiastic about and insipred by this book

    21. I was sent a copy of the book for review though Net Galley, as always, all opinions are my own.I thought this book was a wonderful resource for someone who is considering committing to a vegan lifestyle It starts with the basics, but also covers veganism in regards to than just food Not being vegan myself, some of the topics that were covered were things I had never considered before All in all an interesting and entertaining read packs with lots of helpful tips.

    22. This book is geared so for those people who probably don t know very much or anything about veganism It s basic and gets right to the point Although there were a lot of things that I ve known about already, I did like the choices of recipes and resources I would buy this book for the recipes and to keep as a reference for anybody who asks me about being vegan.

    23. This book was, first and foremost, HILARIOUS It drips with sarcasm especially in the Manners segment Castoria has a great voice and made me laugh multiple times Secondly, this book really drills into the reader that you can t be perfect but anything is better than something and build from there.Great read for any beginner vegan.

    24. I especially love her emphasis on mannerly ways to handle this alternate lifestyle and the recipes are good starter recipes The Kale chips were a lot of work usual but actually came out delicious not usual I read it in search of a good beginner book for those who express interest in being vegan when they learn I am.

    25. This was a fast, easy read that is perfect for someone who is curious about veganism or has recently made the switch Castoria gives a simple breakdown of how to be vegan and provides great resources to give added support and information to the new vegan I will definitely recommend or loan this book out to anyone who is considering a vegan lifestyle.

    26. This book was perfect for my transition into a vegetarian lifestyle It explained a lot of important facts about vegans that I didn t know and I m fairly inspired to one day become a full fledged vegan However, I currently love dairy and cheese too much to quit those.

    27. Vegan virginThis book is a great starter to understanding the choices people make to become vegan I love the recipes and will be trying several This book has helped me to realize just how much I want to give it a go.

    28. Some very useful tips and facts some of which I was shocked I didn t previously know I have tried the delicious cinnamon raisin pancake recipe and can t wait to try recipes and update my review and maybe bring it up to five stars Like a lot of the diagrams

    29. This is a fun book for new vegans, or just people curious about what being vegan really means. The book is approachable, witty, and not hard core It s really cute Additionally, it s a great reference, and would be a great gift as well I really enjoyed it.
